# An Intro to Basic Ship Movement > Piloting a craft is as simple as right clicking the sign with the craft type on it. > > (Such as something like `Starfighter`; you will know when you hit the right sign) > > After the ship has been piloted, you have 2 methods of control: > > Compass/manual control - holding a compass in hand, right click in the direction you wish to travel. This will move you a set amount of blocks, the distance can be changed by shift-right clicking. Each craft type has its own 'Gears' which determine the distance each movement takes you. > Direct/Movement control - Similar to compass controls, gears will affect how many blocks you move; This movement style is primarily used for fighters and allows players to translate their own movements onto the craft. If you walk forward, your craft will move forward, same with going to the sides or rear. You cannot traverse the ship when this is active, so keep that in mind > > Now that both styles of movement have been covered, there are a few things that will move your ship in different ways > > right clicking a sign with `Cruise: OFF` on the first line, or typing `/cruise`, will put your craft into automated movement. > > It is very rudimentary, only allowing the ship to travel in one direction, but it is useful for long trips where you might not want to be bound to your keyboard. > > Warping, which requires a `Furnace` and a `Lectern` aboard your spacecraft. > Upon reaching space, right click the Lectern while piloted and you will be prompted with a GUI to warp to other nearby planets within a 20k block range. > > Warping requires Crystallized Radon or a Lithium Gas Canister to use, which is stored in a Furnace > > (Disclaimer: Do not put a Lithium Gas Canister in a furnace with furnace-fuel as the item will be destroyed.) > > After a brief warmup period, provided that the required radon is available, you will warp to the location if unobstructed. A cooldown will take place after you reach your destination.
